It’s pretty simple really.
You haven’t done the work yet.
Talk with some of the big earners in the Keyword Academy community, and they will all tell you the same thing:
They have done a ton of work.
There is a huge disconnect in the world of internet marketing between what people believe to be the secret of making money online, and what the truth actually is.
People often believe there is a magic secret that–if only they knew what it was–would make them tons of money online.
The truth is that it takes work. Hard work. A lot of work.
And it takes sustained effort. You can’t just go nuts for a weekend and crank out 20 articles and expect to make buckets of money.
Nor can you write one or two articles each week and expect to build a profitable business in six months or less.
This is a numbers game based on having lots of quality articles. Part of the key is quality, of course. Garbage in, garbage out. Google is not stupid. Their algorithm used to be fairly crude, and dumping lots of cheap outsourced junk into a website was a great way to scale up your income.
That seems to be changing, quickly.
The bar has been raised, but your goal is still one of volume.
So now you have to juggle at least two balls: quality and volume.
If you nail them both, really nail them, then you can ignore the third ball–promotion–a little bit more.
The age of your site is a huge factor in the amount of authority that Google grants you. This may ratchet up even more as the web matures and the onslaught of webspam continues to pile up.
So now you have to be patient as well!
Sheesh….this keeps getting harder and harder, doesn’t it?
Is it all worth it?
Of course it is all worth it. But you need to keep things in perspective, and stay realistic.
You absolutely can build a nearly passive income online, but you are gonna have to put in the work to create something amazing.
Volume. Quality. Age. Creativity. Community.
These are the things that build a sustainable business online.
If you want a sustainable income then consider your earnings to publishing ratio.
If you have 5 articles on a niche site and you build a ton of links and this is earning you decent money, then how stable is that really? Not very. You have very few rankings so any fluctuations can vaporize your income.
One the other hand, say that you have 2,000 articles on your website. None of them rank great for big keywords, but the collective power of them produces a full time income. Stable? You bet. If you baked in quality from the start, then even the harshest algorithm update will only ding your earnings by about 30 percent or so (and that will just be collateral damage on Google’s part as they pull the Panda lever, your full income will be restored in a future update. Personal experience confirms that one.)
If you want to earn income online then anyone can just slap up some content and build some quick links and income will eventually be produced. But if you want a sustainable business then you are going to have to “go the extra mile” and create something real, something amazing, something that is oozing with quality and that is genuinely helpful. Something that stands out as being real in a sea of webspam.
The bigger the better. But don’t forget, quality is still priority number one.
